Helping our Brokers Make Partner for the 13th Year

For a full week in May, twenty top RSA brokers from across Canada gathered at Queen’s University’s prestigious Smith School of Business for RSA’s 13^th^ edition of the industry-leading broker education program, ‘Making Partner”.

The week kicked off at the beautiful University Club on Queen’s campus with an opening speech from Senior Vice-President of Personal Lines, Donna Ince, who spoke to RSA’s commitment to the broker channel through such investments as Making Partner and the importance of our partnership going forward.

Throughout the remainder of the week, RSA offered brokers the place, tools, and most importantly, the luxury of time to consider how to refine and sharpen their leadership and management skills. Delivered by a host of world-renowned faculty and industry experts, delegates received a deep-dive immersion in such topics such as “Leveraging Power and Influence”, “Building Resilience”, and “Design Thinking”. Most importantly, brokers had an opportunity to learn from each other with every single delegate bringing a depth of experience - which they were certainly not shy to share!

Learning was balanced by multiple social outings including enjoying a couple of Raptors game together at a popular Queen’s pub, touring historic Fort Henry, and enjoying dinner in Kingston’s infamous downtown “hub district”. The closing banquet was held at the grandiose Renaissance hotel, where Vice President of Broker Marketing and Communications, Julia Carr, offered closing remarks and numerous participants spontaneously took over the microphone to express their appreciation to RSA and Queen’s for their Making Partner experience.

“Prior to attending RSA’s Making Partner program my performance leader (who attended in 2017), described the program as a “mini insurance MBA”, and I would agree. It was an amazing experience that provided key industry insights and leadership skills you would expect in an executive MBA program. The program was held at Queen's University which is one of the country’s top business schools, and that was on full display throughout the course. The days were jam-packed with relevant and cutting edge subject matter such as: Design Thinking, Digital Transformation, Building Resilience and Leveraging Influence; and the nights where crammed with socializing and networking with some of the best and brightest in the industry. The days and nights were long, but the support provided enabled you to focus on the training. For example, during the trip my headphones broke - I asked one of the program advisors where I could go to buy a new pair. He asked me to hold tight and came back a few hours later with a new set for me. RSA & Queen’s host one of, if not the top insurance courses in the country and I felt honored to attend. I am proud to have completed RSA’s Making Partner program, this has made me a better leader and broker for my organization, employees and most importantly my clients!”

Thank you to everyone who attended Making Partner and to everyone who organized the event, especially RSA Talent Manager Bala Lajos and Queen’s University Program Managers Chris Gentile and Becky MacDonald. By being taken away from their everyday life to spend time reflecting on new ways of thinking for leadership and strategy, we are confident our 2019 Making Partner graduates will apply their learnings back in their brokerages to further grow their careers.
